Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Russian Federation will soon open a Consulate General in Samarkand, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Ryabkov announced at a reception at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Moscow dedicated to the country’s Independence Day, according to TASS.

“The work to establish the Russian Consulate General in Samarkand is nearing completion. The consulate will open in the very near future,” Ryabkov said.

He added that this step would serve as further confirmation of the “mutual desire to strengthen bilateral ties, including at the regional level.”

By opening the consulate in Samarkand, Russia aims to facilitate access to consular services for its citizens, taking into account the large number of Russian nationals living in the city and its surrounding areas.

In February 2024, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree approving the opening of the Consulate General in Samarkand.
