Russia and Uzbekistan Discuss TPP Modernization and New Energy Projects
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Russia and Uzbekistan continue to expand cooperation in the energy sector, exploring the participation of Russian companies in projects to modernize Uzbekistan’s thermal power plants (TPPs) and construct new generation facilities.
According to the Russian Ministry of Energy, these discussions followed the 26th meeting of the Russia-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Commission, attended by Deputy Minister Roman Marshavin.
During the meeting, the parties reviewed prospects for collaboration in the oil and gas sector, including the adoption of Russian industry standards, as well as the development of cooperation in electricity generation. In particular, plans are underway to involve Russian companies in upgrading existing TPPs and building new power generation capacities in Uzbekistan.
A Russian-Uzbek interministerial working group has been established to exchange expertise and best practices in hydropower, focusing on the safety of hydraulic structures.
In addition, energy companies from both countries are cooperating on staff training and the implementation of advanced technological solutions. A working meeting was also held between Roman Marshavin and Uzbek Deputy Minister of Energy Azizov Kobilov.
Deputy Minister Marshavin emphasized that the Russia-Uzbek energy partnership is built on a strong historical foundation and that the countries are now combining accumulated experience with new opportunities to ensure long-term energy security and technological sovereignty.
