Results of work of UNDP project on local governance discussed in Namangan

The meeting considered the report on results of work of the UNDP project in 2016 and plans for 2017. The participants received information on key achievements of the project, research on strengthening potential of local state bodies, etc.

It was noted that the project developed several manuals, books, research reports, directed at modernizing system of the state governance and public service, as well as sustainable developing of the region.

Within the project, the gasoline generators were installed at 20 one-stop-shops of Jizzakh, Namagan and Tashkent regions to ensure interrupted rendering state services to small and private businesses. Solar panels were installed in Mingbulak district of Namangan region.

At the meeting, the participants discussed plans of the project for 2017, which includes measures on improving legislative base, development of strategies for development of the regions, etc.

UNDP implements the Local Governance Support Programme/Phase-II together with the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, to promote more effective, accountable and inclusive governance in Uzbekistan by enhancing local government performance, supporting accountability and transparency and increasing citizen participation in local governance. Jizzakh, Namangan and Tashkent are the pilot regions.
