Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Using the institution of adoption introduced in our national legislation, in 2017, 4 thousand children were adopted in court. And in 2018 this figure was 4.1 thousand, in 2019 - 4.3 thousand.
Today, the number of people on the waiting list for adoption remains much higher than the number of adoptive parents. As a result, the number of cases of illegal adoption, including the sale of children, is on the rise.
Therefore, the State Program in the Year of Supporting Youth and Strengthening the Health of the Population provides for the study of the practice of adoption and the revision of the legal framework in this area.
In order to analyze the work on adoption and eliminate gaps in legislation related to the current procedures, the Law "On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Connection with Improving the Legal Basis of the Adoption Procedure" has been developed.
At the nineteenth plenary session of the Senate, the Senators discussed this Law. The law stipulates amendments and additions to the Family Code and the Law on Guardianship and Trusteeship.
Now the law envisages the possibility of adoption and guardianship for persons who have committed less serious crimes, which do not pose a great public danger and do not interfere with adoption, as well as those who have served a sentence.
It is established that the list of persons suffering from diseases that hinder adoption will be approved by the Cabinet of Ministers, taking into account the priority interests of the child.
The law was prepared, first of all, based on the needs and requirements of society, and has an important social and spiritual significance from a humanitarian point of view.
In general, the adoption of the Law will serve to fully protect the rights of the child and prevent the illegal adoption of children, especially the sale of children.
