Responsibility for public calls for riots and violence against citizens established

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Law "On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan".

The Law amended the Code of Administrative Responsibility.

Accordingly, a public call for non-fulfillment or violation of the requirements of the legislative acts of Uzbekistan, which poses a threat to public order and public safety, including carried out using the media, telecommunication networks, the worldwide information network, as well as printed or other methods of reproduction of text, entails the imposition of a fine from 60 to 80 basic estimated values (from 14 million 700 thousand soums to 19 million 600 thousand soums).

According to the amendment made to the Criminal Code, public insult or slander against the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan using telecommunication networks or the world information network of the Internet is punishable by correctional labor up to 3 years or restriction of freedom from 2 to 5 years or imprisonment up to 5 years. (Previously, there was liability for public insult or libel against the President, using the press or other media)

The Code introduced responsibility for public calls for riots and violence against citizens.

According to this, the perpetrators of this act are punished with a fine from 100 to 300 BRV or correctional labor up to 2 years, or restraint of liberty from 3 to 5 years or imprisonment from 3 to 5 years.

The same actions committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons or using the media, telecommunications networks, the world wide information network Internet, as well as printed or other methods of reproduction of text, are punished with a fine from 300 to 400 BRV or correctional labor from 2 to 3 years or imprisonment from 5 to 10 years.

This Law shall enter into force on the day of its official publication.
