Responsibility for pointing lasers to airplanes to be introduced in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan plans to introduce a responsibility for pointing lasers to the airplanes, Norma.uz reported quoting a member of the Committee of the Legislative Chamber of industry, construction and trade Polyante Sveshnikov.

According to the MP, the Legislative Chamber is considering amendments to Criminal Code and Code on administrative responsibility, which determine types and measures of responsibility of individuals for pointing laser to the aircrafts.

Polyante Sveshnikov underlined that there are norms, which envisage administrative or criminal responsibility for pointing laser to the aircrafts.

The amendments will introduce norms, which will determine types and measures against individuals, who pointed laser to aircrafts. So, authorized bodies could not attract law violators to responsibility.

He recalled that Uzbekistan banned import of laser pointers in 2013 with the special resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers. However, there were 16 cases of pointing laser to airplanes in 2014-2015.

Sveshnikov said that laser pointed to the cabin of pilots can be dangerous and the pilots will be disoriented and can lead of loss of sight by pilots at crucial stage of flight – landing or taking-off. Adoption of the draft law will help to improve flight security in Uzbekistan, he said.
