Resident of Samarkand Region Sentenced to Four Years of Restricted Freedom for Participation in Hostilities in Ukraine
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Kattakurgan District Court of the Samarkand region has handed down a verdict against a man who took part in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine.
The case concerns a 27-year-old identified as J.K., who was detained in Moscow, where he had been working without the required permits.
According to the case materials, the defendant signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, hoping to avoid legal liability and obtain financial gain.
After signing the contract, he was sent to a military training ground for preparation. In January 2025, J.K. sustained serious injuries as a result of a drone strike and was hospitalized.
Upon his return to Uzbekistan, criminal proceedings were initiated against him. During the court hearing, he fully admitted his guilt and expressed remorse.
The court found J.K. guilty under Part 1 of Article 154 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (“Mercenarism”) and sentenced him to four years of restriction of freedom.
