Report: President of Uzbekistan to Visit Türkiye to Strengthen Strategic Partnership
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will make an official visit to Türkiye on 29 January to deepen bilateral strategic relations and to inaugurate residential complexes for communities affected by earthquakes, according to AJU News, citing the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the Republic of Korea.
During the visit, the fourth session of the Supreme Council for Strategic Cooperation will take place. This council serves as a key institutional platform for coordinating high-level policies between the two countries.
The President will participate in an online ceremony to open residential complexes in the Arsu district of Hatay Province, constructed by Uzbekistan to support communities impacted by the devastating earthquakes of February 2023. The Arsu and Gaziantep regions were among the hardest hit, with significant damage to social and industrial infrastructure. The residential complexes were funded by the Uzbek government and provided free of charge to Turkish citizens. This project continues the urgent assistance delivered in 2023, when units of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations and medical teams participated in search and rescue operations.
The strategic partnership between the two countries, established in 2017, has been developing across political, economic, and cultural spheres. The Supreme Council for Strategic Cooperation, created in 2018, functions as the main mechanism for bilateral dialogue and is chaired by the presidents of both nations. Previous council sessions were held in Ankara in 2020 and 2024, and in Tashkent in 2022.
By the end of 2025, trade between Uzbekistan and Türkiye reached approximately US$3 billion, supported by the Preferential Trade Agreement signed in 2023. The countries maintain active transportation links, with around 100 flights operating weekly. The partnership also extends to cultural and multilateral initiatives through the Organization of Turkic States, including the installation of a monument to Alisher Navoi in Ankara and academic conferences dedicated to historical figures such as Abu Rayhan Biruni.
The upcoming summit in Ankara is expected to focus on further integration of trade, energy, and transport corridors, as well as the development of regional connectivity between Central Asian countries and international markets via Türkiye.
