Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An inter-regional conference of university rectors of Uzbekistan and Russia was held in an online format, which summed up the interim results of the practical implementation of bilateral agreements in the scientific and educational sphere and identified new promising areas and formats of cooperation, Dunyo news agency reported.

The meeting was attended by heads of relevant structures, rectors of more than 120 universities of two countries.

Within the framework of the conference, plenary and sessional meetings were held at which the state and prospects of scientific and educational cooperation between universities, topical issues of opening and functioning of branches of Russian universities in Uzbekistan were discussed.

The event was an important stage in preparation for the Second Uzbek-Russian educational forum, which is due to take place in Moscow in 2020.

During the First Uzbek-Russian Educational Forum, held in October 2018 in Tashkent, more than 130 bilateral agreements were signed. Based on the agreements reached, in recent years 7 new branches of Russian universities in Uzbekistan have been opened. Almost 3 thousand students study in them.
