Reconstruction of the Republican Children’s Library continues

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Reconstruction of the library, first of all, starts with the introduction of inclusiveness. The main task of the project is to make the library available to everyone.

It is planned to create rooms and reading rooms so that people can read, communicate and participate in cultural programs. Halls will appear that will function as coworking centers where classes for children will be held. There will also be vending machines and corners in the foyer where parents can leave their strollers so as not to clutter up the library. The bathrooms are equipped with rooms for mothers and children, so that parents can also leave small children in a soft children’s room.

In addition, the large hall will become multifunctional. It will always be open and accessible as a reading room, where it will be possible to hold film screenings and lectures.

A transformable conference hall with easily transformable furniture will also be created. Classes and various meetings will also be held here. The unchanged part of the building will remain the facade, which will retain its original appearance.

The collection of books will, in turn, be expanded. It is planned to double the number of books.

The main idea of this project was the creation of an educational center in the library. This will be the next step in making the library an open space for everyone.

This redesign of the library will help people to become closer in interests and spend their free time to the benefit of all.

The building of the Republican Children’s Library, a vivid example of the so-called "Turkestan Art Nouveau", carries a rich history. The building, built in 1893 by architect I. Markevich, at the beginning of the 20th century belonged to Bukharian Jews - the Vadyaev brothers - wealthy cotton producers from Kokand, who once owned the legendary Metropol hotel in Moscow. Afterwards, it housed the Tashkent City Duma and the Public Assembly, and the residential part turned into a children’s library.

LudiArchitects was founded in 2005. The bureau’s activities cover architectural design, research in the field of organizing space, territories and buildings of cultural and business facilities. During its existence, the company has developed and implemented a number of projects related to the complex improvement of the territories of cities and facilities, public spaces and interiors, the organization of museums and exhibitions. The company entered the TOP-10 of the best young architectural bureaus according to the Project Russia magazine.
