Protection zones established around Chatkal and Aktau-Tamdy reserves
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Protection zones have been established around the Chatkal State Biosphere Reserve (32,859.89 hectares) and the Aktau-Tamdy Reserve (28,500 hectares) in Uzbekistan. The corresponding resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, No. 142, was signed on 5 March 2025.
The protection zone of the Chatkal Reserve includes areas of the Pap Specialized Forestry (766.53 hectares) in Namangan region, the Akhangaran State Forestry (8,101.85 hectares) in Tashkent region, and the Burchmulla State Forestry (23,991.51 hectares) in Bostanlyk district.
The protected area of the Aktau-Tamdy Reserve covers lands belonging to the Tamdy State Forestry (6,200 hectares) and the Committee for Veterinary Medicine and Livestock Development (22,300 hectares) in the Tamdy district of Navoi region.
These measures aim to prevent the negative impact of economic activities, preserve rare and endangered species of flora and fauna, and maintain biodiversity within the reserves.
