Prospects for the development of transport cooperation with Latvia discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 7 February, the first meeting of the Uzbek-Latvian working group on transport issues was held.

During the talks, held under the leadership of the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdusamat Muminov and the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Latvia Uldis Reimanis, important issues of developing bilateral relations between our countries in all modes of transport were discussed.

During the meeting, the parties highly appreciated the positive dynamics of cooperation in the field of air transport. In particular, noting the resumption of regular flights on the Tashkent-Riga-Tashkent route in 2021, in order to develop cooperation in this direction, a protocol of mutual understanding was signed between the aviation administrations of Uzbekistan and Latvia. In accordance with it, commercial cooperation between Uzbekistan Airways and AirBaltic will be expanded.

This will allow the airlines of the two countries to expand the geography of flights through joint partner flights (code-sharing). Passengers of Uzbekistan Airways JSC will have the opportunity to fly to such destinations of the AirBaltic flight network as Tallinn (Estonia), Vilnius (Lithuania), Stockholm (Sweden), Copenhagen (Denmark), Helsinki (Finland) and Amsterdam (Netherlands).

During the meeting, special attention was paid to the issue of the effectiveness of joint actions in the field of road transport. In particular, the reduction in fees for international road freight transport to the countries of the European Union for 2022 was especially recognized. The Latvian side supported the proposals made to increase the volume of freight transport by road and ensure the continuity of the cargo supply chain.

Following the meeting between the ministries of transport of Uzbekistan and Latvia, a joint road map was signed on promising areas of cooperation for 2022.
