Prospects for multifaceted cooperation with the UAE discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 10 November 2020, within the framework of the visit of the government delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the United Arab Emirates, the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov met with the Minister of Government Affairs of the United Arab Emirates Mohammad bin Abdullah al-Gergawi.

The meeting was devoted to the study of the course of multifaceted cooperation in the field of increasing the efficiency of public administration and the implementation of the corresponding "road maps" in 25 directions. It was noted that as of the current moment, despite the restrictions caused by the pandemic, 147 joint events were held, as a result of which more than 2 thousand civil servants of Uzbekistan were trained within the framework of specialized trainings with a total duration of 34 thousand hours.

The success achieved in the implementation of individual cooperation programs and projects will be emphasized, for example, on 11 November, through a videoconference, an award ceremony will be held for the finalists of the competition for the development of the best mobile application for state needs "mGov Award", which was attended by about 250 programmers who presented more than 100 innovative developments and software products in the field of public services.

It was also noted that the “One Million Programmers” project launched in Uzbekistan in 2019 has already covered more than 70,000 people, many of whom have already received the relevant qualification certificates. In the opinion of the parties, this project is one of the key initiatives within the framework of bilateral cooperation, since, by stimulating the development of information and communication technologies in Uzbekistan, its implementation in parallel allows solving the issues of qualifications and employment of young people.

They also discussed the possibilities for expanding cooperation in the investment sphere by attracting investment corporations of the UAE to implement projects in priority sectors of the economy of Uzbekistan. In particular, the prospects for the participation of Emirati investors in the privatization and modernization program of state assets in tourism, real estate, agriculture and industry were considered.

During the dialogue, further steps were also agreed to expand the program of bilateral cooperation by covering new promising areas - deepening trade partnership by increasing the volume of supplies of Uzbek fruits and vegetables to the UAE, implementing joint projects aimed at creating large export-oriented industrial enterprises, developing tourism and introducing mechanisms of Islamic financing in Uzbekistan.

Special attention was paid to the issues of interaction in the field of healthcare and ensuring the protection of public health during a pandemic - the Emirates side expressed its readiness to assist in attracting leading profile companies of the UAE to work to improve the efficiency of management of medical institutions in Uzbekistan.

As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached on organizing a visit of the Emirati delegation headed by Minister of Government Affairs Mohammad bin Abdullah al-Gergawi to Uzbekistan by the end of this year.
