Prosecutor’s Office Employee Detained in Tashkent Region on Bribery Charges
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A criminal case has been opened in Tashkent region against an employee of the prosecutor’s office suspected of accepting a bribe.
The inspector from the prosecutor’s office demanded US$9,000 from an individual entrepreneur in the Urtachirchik district in exchange for canceling a fine of 276 million soums imposed for illegal electricity use in a retail store and ensuring that no enforcement measures would be taken.
In addition, he requested that the payment be transferred to a university in Namangan where he was studying.
During a joint operational action, officers from the State Security Service detained the suspect in Namangan region while receiving the money and seized material evidence.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against him and other involved parties under Articles 25, Part 3, Clause “v” (fraud) and 28, Part 1 (bribery) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The prosecutor’s office inspector has been remanded in custody.
Authorities emphasized that combating corruption remains a priority of state reforms. Citizens are encouraged to report cases of abuse in daily life via the short number 1520, with confidentiality guaranteed.
