Priorities of Uzbekistan in the UN Human Rights Council presented

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 9 September 2020, Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the UN Office in Geneva Ulugbek Lapasov took part in the annual joint meeting of the international NGOs "Amnesty International" ("AI") and "International Service for Human Rights", dedicated to discussions with candidate countries to the UN Human Rights Council for 2021-2023 on their human rights priorities.

The event, which brought together some 150 participants from governments, various NGOs and civil society, was also co-organized by the governments of the Netherlands and the Marshall Islands.

As you know, Uzbekistan has nominated itself for membership in the UN Human Rights Council for 2021-2023 from the Asia-Pacific region.

During the interactive dialogue, the head of the diplomatic mission provided complete information on the large-scale reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan, the current level of fruitful cooperation with various UN institutions, including on human rights issues. The voluntary commitments of our country, which are accepted in case of election to the Council in accordance with the UN General Assembly Resolution 60/251, are explained in detail.

In this context, special attention is paid to the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to adopt the International Code of Voluntary Commitments of Countries during a Pandemic under the auspices of the UN.

The participation of the Uzbek side in the event was highly appreciated by the organizers for the content and specificity of the speeches.
