Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan set a task to increase mutual trade to US$1 billion in the near future and to US$2 billion in the future. This was stated by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan Ibragim Junusov during his entry at the reception on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Independence of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The diplomat noted that the last year was a breakthrough in the development of multifaceted Kyrgyz-Uzbek cooperation.
He noted that during the state visit of the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov to Uzbekistan, agreements were reached to increase trade and eliminate all barriers, as well as to create a Kyrgyz-Uzbek Investment Fund with an authorized capital of US$200 million.
Ambassador Ibrahim Junusov said that this visit contributed to the creation of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek Business Council, which will become a new platform for deepening economic partnership between the two countries.
Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, as the ambassador noted, within the framework of the first Kyrgyz-Uzbek business forum in Tashkent, an agreement was reached on the implementation of almost 60 projects worth more than US$550 million.
According to statistics from Kyrgyzstan, the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan in January-July 2021 reached about US$300 million. According to the Uzbek side, the trade turnover exceeded US$508 million.
