Presidents of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan hold meeting in Astana

Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that Uzbekistan stands for a political settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, ensuring stability in the country and developing its economy.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani noted that Afghanistan highly appreciates Uzbekistan’s efforts to restore stability in his country and expressed gratitude for the work done in this direction.

Ashraf Ghani stressed Afghanistan’s interest in implementing the agreements, reached during the meeting held within the framework of the Tashkent summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2016.

Presidents of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan discussed the prospects for further development of relations between the countries in the political, trade-economic, transport-communication, cultural and humanitarian spheres, and cooperation within the framework of international organizations.

The heads of the two countries also considered topical issues of regional and international importance.
