Presidential Reforms Drive Record Tourism Growth in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In 2025, Uzbekistan’s tourism sector has achieved record figures since the country’s independence.

According to the Tourism Committee under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, more than 8.6 million foreign tourists visited Uzbekistan in the first nine months of the year. Since April 2025, the monthly influx of international visitors has consistently exceeded one million.

These results vividly demonstrate the effectiveness of reforms implemented by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, aimed at comprehensive development of the tourism sector, strengthening the country’s international image, and creating comfortable conditions for travelers.

International Recognition and Industry Investment

Uzbekistan actively participates in major international tourism fairs and exhibitions, conducts roadshows, and presents itself in over 20 countries worldwide. In Samarkand, the International Academy of Tourism has been established, a regional UN Tourism office has opened, and tourism entrepreneurs received subsidies totaling 109 billion soms this year.

Such support has not only increased the number of visitors but also extended their average length of stay. The tourist demographic is becoming increasingly diverse: while older travelers once predominated, there is now a growing share of young people and family tourists.

Rising Interest from Distant Markets

There has been a notable increase in visitors from Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas, reflecting Uzbekistan’s growing recognition and attractiveness as a new center for cultural, historical, and ecological tourism on the global map.

Contribution to Economy and Employment

The growth in tourism is boosting industry revenues and strengthening the national economy. Whereas tourist activity was once highly seasonal, Uzbekistan is now emerging as a year-round destination.

Simplified visa procedures and the development of digital services have made the country one of the most open and hospitable in the world. The introduction of visa-free entry and electronic visas for citizens of more than 90 countries, along with modernization of hotel and transport infrastructure, has created a sustainable foundation for growth.

Tourism has also become a key driver of job creation, particularly for youth and women, aligning with the President’s social policy priorities aimed at improving public welfare and regional development.

Sustainable Development and Ecotourism

The integration of the Tourism Committee into the Ministry of Ecology has strengthened the focus on sustainable and environmentally responsible tourism. This approach allows for sector development while protecting natural resources, preserving biodiversity, and safeguarding the country’s cultural heritage.

Global challenges — including climate change, ecosystem loss, and environmental pollution — demand new approaches to tourism development, and Uzbekistan’s experience demonstrates the effectiveness of its chosen strategy.

The Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change will continue implementing the objectives set by the Head of State, focusing on improving the quality of tourism services, developing domestic and inbound tourism, and enhancing Uzbekistan’s status as a leading tourism hub in Central Asia.
