President visits furniture cluster in Khankhan district
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As part of his working trip to Khorezm Region, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited a new small industrial zone for furniture production in the Khankhan District.
This initiative was implemented following a decree from 21 June 2021, aimed at developing the furniture industry in regions with high potential. Khankhan District, historically known for its furniture craftsmen, has become one of these centers. Currently, over 140 entrepreneurs are involved in this sector, with small workshops operating in more than 500 homes.
To support producers, a 10-hectare area was allocated, where a cluster-based furniture complex has been established, including production, retail, and exhibition spaces. A total of 61 enterprises have begun operations in the zone, with an investment volume of $10 million and the creation of 650 jobs.
The factories are equipped with modern machinery from Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Turkey, and China. The annual production capacity is furniture for various objects worth 108 billion soums.
The President reviewed the production process, toured the workshops, and examined furniture samples in the showroom. He emphasized the importance of active participation from these enterprises in regional construction projects, particularly in the housing, hotel, and public facility segments. He also highlighted the need to expand the product range through localization.
Special attention is being given to workforce training—an educational center for designers and technologists operates within the industrial zone, with specialists from Turkey contributing to the program. The President discussed with them ways to improve quality and professional training for the youth.
The furniture produced will also be geared towards export, with expectations that exports will exceed US$3 million.
The enterprises are demonstrating a sustainable approach, as all facilities are equipped with solar panels.
Overall, more than 300 enterprises are involved in the furniture industry in Khorezm Region, with 200 entrepreneurs working individually and 1,300 people operating as self-employed.
