Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a new edition of the Law "On Psychiatric Care".
The Law defines a number of basic concepts, such as “informed voluntary consent to medical intervention”, “psychiatric care”, “mental disorder” and others.
This Law expands the rights of persons suffering from mental disorders.
In particular, they have the right to receive, in a form accessible to them, timely and complete information about the nature of their mental disorders and the methods of treatment used, as well as stay in a medical institution providing psychiatric care in an inpatient setting only for the period necessary for providing psychiatric care.
According to the Law, a psychiatric examination is carried out to determine whether the examined person has a mental disorder, the need to provide psychiatric assistance, and also to decide on the type of such assistance.
In addition, the circle of persons entitled to medical practice in the provision of psychiatric care has been precisely defined.
According to this, medical workers (psychiatrist, medical psychologist and psychotherapist) who have a higher specialized medical education have the right to perform medical activities in the provision of psychiatric care.
The law establishes the maintenance of the Single electronic register of persons suffering from mental disorders under dispensary supervision.
