President signs law “On Supreme Judicial Council of Uzbekistan”

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law “On Supreme Judicial Council of Uzbekistan” on 6 April 2017.

Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan passed the law on 18 March 2017 and the Senate approved it on 28 March 2017.

Supreme Judicial Council is the judicial body and assists to ensure independence of the judicial system.

The Council will include 21 persons. Senate of Oliy Majlis will appoint the chairperson of the Supreme Judicial Council on recommendation of the President.

The Council will include Judicial Inspection, Executive Office and Sectors. It will also include Research Center.

The Council forms a reserve of candidates for the positions of judges and organizes a competitive selection of candidates for the position of judges.

The body proposes candidates to the post of the chairperson, deputy chairperson and judges of the Supreme Court, regional and city courts, chairperson of Military Court.

It also appoints judges of military courts, regional and city courts of Tashkent, city and city. It also re-appoints judges, whose term ended.

The Council will also propose on termination of the authorities of the judges, who are appointed by the President or elected by the Senate. It also releases judges of military, regional and city courts with agreement of the President.
