President Signs Law Granting Prisoners the Right to Video Calls and Phone Calls

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a law introducing amendments and additions to the Criminal Enforcement Code that expand the rights of convicted persons to communicate with the outside world.

Under the new provisions, individuals serving prison sentences are granted the right to remote video calls. Each convicted person is now entitled to either one video call or one telephone call lasting 15 minutes. The cost of such phone calls and video sessions will be covered by the prisoners themselves.

Previously, the right of convicted persons was limited to a single 15-minute telephone call.

The law enters into force upon its official publication.
