President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visits Regional Skills Development Center in Urgench

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the newly established Regional Skills Development Center in the city of Urgench.

The center was built with a US$9 million grant from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). It is equipped with modern tools and simulation systems necessary for training in high-demand professions.

Training is offered in 10 areas, including automobile maintenance, welding, crane operation, repair of electronic and household appliances, furniture production, hairdressing and cosmetology, mobile videography, and hotel services.

Spanning nearly 2 hectares, the complex includes modern academic buildings, workshops, a dormitory for 64 people, and auxiliary facilities. The center can accommodate up to 300 trainees annually for six-month vocational training programs.

During his visit, President Mirziyoyev toured the classrooms and spoke with youth studying hotel services.

“We will elevate Urgench Airport to international standards in partnership with Incheon Airport. We are building major tourist hubs and hotels. To attract more foreign tourists, service quality must meet international standards. Tourists come for our history and nature, and if the service is excellent, they’ll leave satisfied. Much depends on communication culture, etiquette, and staff training. Use this opportunity to learn a profession — and aim to become entrepreneurs in the future,” said President Mirziyoyev.

The center also offers electric vehicle maintenance training in cooperation with the Labor Migration Agency, Hyundai (South Korea), and SBH West (Germany), helping prepare specialists for both domestic and global job markets.

International collaboration is growing: in January, administrative staff underwent a two-week advanced training course in South Korea, and over 20 instructors are currently continuing their training there.

President Mirziyoyev emphasized that quality vocational education is fundamental to industrialization and national development. He provided guidance on optimizing equipment usage, organizing training shifts effectively, and expanding access for youth.

At the conclusion of his visit to Khorezm, the President returned to Tashkent.
