Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 21 May, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in a videoconference at a regular meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.
Uzbekistan received the status of an observer state with the Eurasian Economic Union during the summit of this Organization on 11 December 2020.
Over the past period, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed with the Eurasian Economic Commission and a three-year Action Plan for its implementation. Representatives of our country participate in various multilateral events of the EAEU. In April of this year, a meeting of the Council for Industrial Policy of the Association and an international exhibition "Innoprom" were held in the city of Tashkent.
The current meeting of the Supreme Council, chaired by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, was also attended by the Honorary Chairman of the Council, the First President of Kazakhstan - Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev, Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Republic of Sadyr Japarov, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of Cuba - an observer country in the EAEU Miguel Bermudez and Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Myasnikovich.
The agenda of the event included topical issues of practical cooperation in various sectors of the economy, as well as improving the activities of the EAEU.
In his speech, the head of our state separately dwelt on the most important tasks, the solution of which requires coordinated approaches.
In particular, the following are especially noted:
- significant potential for further building up trade relations, including by removing barriers and converging non-tariff trade regulation measures;
- the importance of deepening industrial cooperation between leading enterprises and regions of our countries, promoting projects in the real sector of the economy and ensuring food security, with the involvement of the Eurasian Development Bank;
- solving topical issues in the transport and transit sphere and expanding mutual preferences in order to increase the volume of cargo transportation.
Taking into account the stabilization of the epidemiological situation and the ongoing measures to vaccinate the population, it was proposed to resume regular air and rail links between the countries of the region.
In addition, the possibility of connecting Uzbekistan to the digital platforms of the EAEU on tax and customs administration, industry, labor migration and tourism is being considered, as well as opportunities for cooperation in a number of other priority areas are being studied.
In conclusion, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan once again stressed the importance of achieving concrete and tangible results of the interaction of our country with the Eurasian Economic Union as an observer state.
