President of Uzbekistan reorganizes National Security Service
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev with his decree from 14 March 2018 reorganized the National Security Service (NSS) into the State Security Service (SSS).

According to the decree, the SSS is a special authorized body that protects the constitutional order, sovereignty, territorial integrity and interests of Uzbekistan from external and internal threats.

The document said that the SSS will ensure state security and protect Uzbekistan’s interests from external and internal threats.

The Service will carry out intelligence and counterintelligence activities aimed at preventing, detecting and suppressing encroachments on the constitutional order, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Uzbekistan.

Among the tasks of the new service is also protection of the state border of Uzbekistan. The SSS also will protect the Armed Forces and the defense industry from the challenges, risks and threats to state security. It will also take part in implementation of strategic initiatives to strengthen the country’s defense capability.

The Service will also fight against terrorism, extremism, organized crime, illegal circulation of weapons, narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

The structure will take measures to prevent, detect and suppress destructive activities aimed at propaganda of national, ethnic and religious enmity, which is a threat to public interests and security.

The service will provide economic, scientific, technical, social and information security of the country. Protection of the cultural, historical and rich spiritual heritage of the people of Uzbekistan is also one of the main tasks of the State Security Service.

The new service will fight corruption in state bodies and other organizations, which threaten state interests and security.

The State Security Service will ensure security in telecommunications and transport sectors. The service will ensure the safety of state secrets and the security of special communication, and also organizes cryptographic protection of information in state bodies and other organizations.
