President of Uzbekistan receives a delegation of Afghanistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, on 2 February, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan - Minister of Foreign Affairs Muhammad Hanif Atmar and Head of the Presidential Administration of this country Mohammad Shokir Korgar.

Opening the meeting, the head of our state emphasized the importance of maintaining the current dynamics of the development of bilateral relations and the practical implementation of previously reached agreements at the highest level.

The members of the Afghan delegation sincerely thanked the leader of Uzbekistan for the warm welcome, and conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from the President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani.

Deep gratitude was expressed for the decisive efforts of the Uzbek side aimed at ensuring a peaceful life and sustainable development in Afghanistan.

The fruitful results of the first meeting of the trilateral working group on the construction of the Trans-Afghan railway, held today in the city of Tashkent with the participation of the heads of leading international financial institutions, were highly appreciated.

The parties stressed the importance of the earliest possible preparation and start of practical implementation of this project, active involvement of foreign partners and potential investors, based on the adopted "road map".

In addition, topical issues of further expansion of Uzbek-Afghan multifaceted cooperation were discussed.

We are talking, first of all, about creating favorable conditions for increasing the volume of trade and achieving in the coming years a level of at least US$2 billion, strengthening cooperation in industry, energy, agriculture and logistics, implementing important programs in the field of health, education and culture.

The meeting also reviewed the schedule of upcoming events and contacts at the highest and high levels.
