President of Uzbekistan participates in CIS summit
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 11 October 2017, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in a meeting of the Council of Heads of States of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Sochi (Russia).

Presidents of Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, as well as the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan took part in the CIS summit.

Presidents of CIS countries met in a narrow format and discussed prospects for further strengthening cooperation within the framework of the Commonwealth. They also considered issue of the presiding country in the CIS in 2018. The leaders of the CIS countries exchanged views on regional and international issues.

After that, the heads of the CIS states continued negotiations in an expanded format. They discussed issue of improving the activities of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS.

After the meeting, the CIS Presidents adopted the declaration of the Heads of States of the CIS member states on supporting family institutions and traditional family values, decision to declare 2019 as the Year of the Book and 2020 as the Year of the 75th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, and other documents aimed at strengthening interaction between member countries of the Commonwealth.

In addition, the CIS leaders decided that Tajikistan will chair the CIS in 2018 and Turkmenistan in 2019.
