Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 6 July, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Chairman of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly Volkan Bozkir, who arrived in our country on a visit.
An exchange of views took place on topical issues of the international and regional agenda, prospects for expanding multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN and its specialized agencies were discussed.
The head of our state noted with satisfaction the high level of interaction between the country and the institutions and structures of the Organization in such priority areas as achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring global and regional security, countering new challenges and threats of our time, including overcoming the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.
Uzbekistan, as a member of the UN Human Rights Council, actively promotes important initiatives and participates in the implementation of the global agenda in this area.
In addition, in recent years, on the initiative of the Uzbek side, a number of special resolutions of the General Assembly have been developed and adopted on such key issues as strengthening cooperation in Central Asia, sustainable development and support of tourism in the region, education and religious tolerance, creating a zone of environmental innovations and technologies in Priaralye.
The chairman of the current session of the General Assembly, Volkan Bozkir, especially noted the growing authority of Uzbekistan in the international arena, primarily at the UN platform, as well as the wide support of the international community for the global and regional initiatives of the leader of our country.
The meeting discussed the development of partnerships on topical aspects of economic and social development of the country and the Central Asian region, gender equality and youth support, including through parliaments, environmental protection, access to vaccines and others.
In addition, the sides touched upon the issues of peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan.
As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue a close and effective dialogue between Uzbekistan and UN institutions on priority areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.
