Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 2 March, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations - head of the Counter-Terrorism Department Vladimir Voronkov, who is in our country as part of the program of the Tashkent International Conference on the UN Global Anti-Terrorism Strategy.
At the beginning of the meeting, Vladimir Voronkov conveyed to the President of Uzbekistan the sincere greetings and best wishes of the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres. Special gratitude was expressed for the initiative to hold and organize a representative International Conference, which will begin its two-day work in our capital tomorrow.
Issues of further development of the practical interaction of our country with the institutions and structures of the UN, including the Counter-Terrorism Directorate, were considered.
The head of our state noted with satisfaction the current level of fruitful cooperation. In particular, Uzbekistan is actively involved in the implementation of 15 projects of the Office in the field of combating terrorism.
Important attention was paid to the implementation of the updated Joint Action Plan of the states of the Central Asian region and the expansion of the project portfolio.
The possibilities of holding multilateral events within the framework of the resolution of the UN General Assembly “Enlightenment and Religious Tolerance”, adopted at the initiative of Uzbekistan, to protect young people from the harmful influence of ideas of extremism and terrorism, to exchange experience in the field of rehabilitation and reintegration of persons returned from “hot spots”, and cooperation in the field of personnel training.
An exchange of views took place on the regional agenda, including the development of the situation in Afghanistan, the adoption of measures to provide assistance and assistance to the Afghan people.
As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached on the preparation of a joint road map to expand practical partnership between Uzbekistan and the UN Counter-Terrorism Office.
