Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 18 August, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev had a telephone conversation with Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel.

During the conversation, the leaders considered topical issues on the bilateral agenda and exchanged views on the current situation in the region in the context of developments in Afghanistan.

They especially noted the coincidence of the positions and approaches of the two countries in preventing the escalation of tension and violence in this country, as well as the comprehensive support of the international community for a political settlement of the Afghan conflict.

The importance of continuing close coordination and active interdepartmental interaction in the implementation of humanitarian operations to evacuate citizens by air from Afghanistan to Germany in transit through the territory of Uzbekistan was emphasized.

An agreement was reached to maintain regular contacts at the highest and high levels on the further development of the situation in the region.
