President of Uzbekistan Congratulates the nation on the Day of Remembrance and Honor
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed the nation with a congratulatory message on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance and Honor, as well as the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II.
In his message, the head of state emphasized the historical significance of the Great Victory, expressing deep respect for the memory of heroic ancestors and gratitude to the surviving war and labor veterans.
“This is a chronicle of true courage and heroism, whose greatness is timeless. We rightfully take pride in our steadfast people, who made a worthy contribution to this glorious victory,” the President noted.
He recalled that out of nearly 6.8 million residents of the republic at the time, about 2 million were sent to the front during the war, over half a million of whom died, more than 50,000 perished in concentration camps, and tens of thousands returned home with disabilities. The contribution of the Uzbek people to the common victory was recognized with hundreds of decorations: 301 individuals were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, and more than 70 became full cavaliers of the Order of Glory.
The President paid special tribute to the heroism of the home front: “Uzbekistan became a reliable support base for the front — 171 factories were evacuated here, 280 new enterprises were built, and the republic warmly received and sheltered about 1.5 million evacuees, including 250,000 children.”
Speaking on the continuity of generations, Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed the importance of preserving the memory of the heroism of ancestors and actively fostering patriotic education among youth. He cited symbols of this work such as the Victory Park, the “Vatanparvar” (Patriot) gardens, and the memorial complex “Fidoyilari of the Nation,” where the names of hundreds of fallen defenders of the Motherland are engraved in gold.
The President also highlighted the government’s attention to veterans: in honor of the 80th anniversary of Victory, each surviving war veteran and disabled veteran received a one-time monetary payment of $10,000. Labor front workers and those in equivalent categories also received financial support and commemorative medals. In addition, veterans are provided with medical and social services, including treatment in health resorts.
“We are forever indebted to these remarkable individuals who, without sparing their lives, fought for the peace and freedom we enjoy today,” Mirziyoyev stated.
In conclusion, he extended his heartfelt congratulations and wished all citizens peace, well-being, and happiness: “May peace and harmony always reign in our country, and may our people be happy!”
