President of Uzbekistan Congratulates Customs Service Employees on Professional Holiday

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 26 January, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated employees of the Customs Service on their professional holiday, emphasizing the strategic role of the agency in ensuring the country’s economic security.

In his address, the President noted that since gaining independence, the customs authorities have become a reliable pillar in protecting national interests and safeguarding the country’s borders.

Under the course of “New Uzbekistan,” the system has transformed into a modern, transparent, and efficient structure, making a significant contribution to economic development.

President Mirziyoyev highlighted that, thanks to reforms, customs clearance times have been reduced by 40%, and 20% of declarations are now processed automatically, without human intervention.

In 2025, customs payments to the state budget amounted to 76.2 trillion soums, an increase of 21% compared to the previous year, with their share reaching 25% of the total budget revenues.

Additionally, the agency prevented the illegal circulation of goods worth 1.2 trillion soums, detected and stopped embezzlement at an early stage of risk analysis, ensuring additional revenues of 2.3 trillion soums through the legalization of goods. Illegal circulation of 1.8 tons of narcotics and 1.1 tons of psychotropic and potent substances was also intercepted.

The President noted the growing international authority of the Uzbek customs service: the laboratory and canine center received the status of regional branches, the Customs Institute was accredited under PICARD standards, and the agency joined the Audit Committee of the World Customs Organization.

The head of state emphasized the importance of further strengthening the role of customs in halving the shadow economy over the next five years, as well as increasing efficiency and accountability in preparation for Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization.

Special attention will be given to the development of material and technical infrastructure, strengthening staff potential, and ensuring adequate motivation for employees.

President Mirziyoyev honored the memory of customs officers who died in the line of duty and expressed condolences to their families.

In conclusion, he wished all customs employees good health, well-being, and continued success in their work.
