President of Uzbekistan approves measures for digitalization and sustainable development of the water sector
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan has approved a decree “On measures to accelerate the digitalization of the water sector and ensure its sustainable development.”
The document outlines several key objectives: comprehensive accounting of water resources through the digitalization of more than 400 data sources; creation of an electronic database containing information on over 600,000 water users, 4.3 million hectares of irrigated land, and the volumes of water used for irrigation; minimization of the human factor in water accounting; development of an integrated database on water use across economic sectors; and promotion of sustainable development of the water sector through the large-scale adoption of innovative and modern technologies.
To implement these tasks, a new state institution — the Center for Digitalization and Monitoring of Water Management — will be established under the Ministry of Water Resources based on its Central Dispatch Service and Water Balance Department. The Center will serve as a key link in ensuring the efficient management of the country’s water resources.
