President of Uzbekistan Approves Development of Wrestling and Regular Competitions

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan has signed a decree “On Measures for the Further Development of Wrestling,” establishing the regular organization of new competitions in this sport starting in 2026.

Among the events to be held are the President’s Cup of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Prosecutor General’s Cup, the “O‘zbekiston Botirlari” tournament, as well as cups and championships for military personnel and employees of the Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies.

As part of the reform, a Regional Wrestling Academy will be established under the Uzbekistan Wrestling Association to train athletes at a professional level.

In addition, specialized wrestling schools under the Ministry of Sports will implement systematic training programs for national kurash and other wrestling disciplines.

Starting from the 2026/2027 academic year, sports clubs focused on wrestling will be established in each district and city on the basis of one general education school.

These clubs will work closely with the kurash schools to ensure continuity in the development of young athletes.

To improve the quality of training and implement modern scientific and methodological approaches, foreign coaches and specialists will be invited, aiming to elevate the standard of wrestling in Uzbekistan to a new international level.
