President of Uzbekistan and members of the government expressed their condolences on the death of Academician Edward Rtveladze

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The science of Uzbekistan has suffered a heavy loss. At the age of 79, the famous historian, archaeologist, art critic, academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan Edward Vasilyevich Rtveladze passed away.

Edward Rtveladze was born on 14 May 1942 in the Georgian city of Borjomi. In 1967 he graduated from Tashkent State University, began his career as a laboratory assistant at the Institute of Art Studies. In 1975 he defended his Ph.D., in 1989 - his doctoral dissertation. In 1995 he was elected a full member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

For almost 60 years of his scientific activity, the talented scientist fruitfully worked as a junior, senior researcher, head of a department of the Institute of Art History, chairman of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan, made a worthy contribution to the development of science in our country.

Hundreds of articles and studies, books and monographs by the scientist on the ancient and medieval history of Central Asia, numismatics and epigraphy, culture and art are well known in the scientific communities not only in our country, but throughout the world.

Under the direct supervision of a dedicated mentor, who generously shared his knowledge with young people, dozens of candidates and doctors of sciences were trained.

Rtveladze took an active part in the socio-political life of the country, worked effectively as a member of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The merits of Academician Edward Rtveladze in the development of national science are duly appreciated by our state. He was awarded the State Prize of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the orders “Buyuk Khizmatlari Uchun”, “Mekhnat Shukhrati” and “El-Yurt Khurmati”. 

The memory of the outstanding scientist, caring mentor, sincere and modest person Edward Rtveladze will forever remain in our hearts.
