President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to visit Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - As part of the participation of the delegation of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, headed by the Chairman of the Senate Tanzila Narbayeva in the 143rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on 30 November in Madrid, a meeting was held with the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Duarte Pacheco.

The IPU President welcomed the active participation of Uzbek parliamentarians in the work of the Organization, including such agenda items as youth, gender policy, environment and health.

Pacheko noted that the youth policy of Uzbekistan is consonant with the strategy of the inter-parliamentary union. In this regard, he highly appreciated the representation of youth in the country’s parliament.

"In many developed countries, young people are represented in parliament at the level of no more than 3%, and in Uzbekistan this figure is twice as high." At the same time, the Ministry of Railways welcomes the intention of the Uzbek side to increase the number of youth in the country’s legislative body. Expressed gratitude for the support of the Union’s campaign “Say yes to the young parliament”.

It was especially emphasized that women make up 32% of the total number of parliamentarians in the Parliament of Uzbekistan, which is one of the best indicators in the world. Recent reforms in the field of gender equality deserve a positive assessment.

In this regard, Duarte Pacheko expressed confidence that the next Forum of Women Speakers of the World, which will be held in Uzbekistan in September 2022, will be organized at the highest level. He expressed a desire to visit Uzbekistan next year.

In conclusion, the parties reached an agreement on further strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Railways in areas of mutual interest.
