Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, a branch of the Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University was opened in the city of Jizzakh of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This is the first foreign branch of KFU.

Students will study here such specialties as mechanical engineering, geology, software engineering, economics, information systems and technologies, management, linguistics, pharmacy in the field of biomedicine and journalism, the press service of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan said.

The opening ceremony was attended by President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and Deputy Prime Minister for the Development of the Fuel, Energy and Chemical Industries - Minister of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov.

The opening took place with the support of the leadership of Uzbekistan. The premises were provided for the university, in which they carried out repairs, the issue of purchasing equipment is now being worked out.

The list of areas in which specialists will be trained was formed based on the needs of the republic.

“It is symbolic that the branch is opening in the Republic of Uzbekistan. We are bound by the traditions of many years of productive cooperation, which has been steadily strengthening in recent years. Thanks to this branch, young people will have the opportunity to receive a high-quality education without leaving their country, in excellent conditions and in various areas of training,” Minnikhanov said, addressing the audience.

The opening of a branch of KFU in Uzbekistan opens up great opportunities for even greater integration of scientific and educational processes and developments of Tatarstan specialists. In addition, the first foreign branch allows KFU to accept students now not only in Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny and Yelabuga, but also in Jizzakh. This helps to increase the number of places in hostels and reduce the load on the current classroom fund of the university. Today, 10 thousand foreign students study at KFU, 25% of which are students from Uzbekistan.

The training process will begin on 31 October. Some 300 students will go to the first course, 59 will go to the second year, the press service of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan reports.
