President Approves Measures to Modernize Tashkent’s Transport System

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan has signed a decree “On Additional Measures to Improve the Management of Tashkent’s Transport System and Prevent Traffic Congestion.” The document outlines target indicators for the city’s transport development through 2030.

Key objectives include increasing public transport usage to 60%, raising the average bus speed from 18 km/h to 24 km/h, creating 150,000 vehicle parking spaces, and expanding the metro network to 103 km.

As part of the decree’s implementation, a Traffic Management Center will be established in Tashkent. Its main functions will include managing vehicle and pedestrian flows through continuous monitoring using digital and eco-friendly technologies, developing a city transport master plan, organizing multi-level transit hubs at major intersections with bus and metro stops, and creating safe parking zones under metro lines and overpasses.

Additionally, an intelligent transport system will be developed, integrated with modern IT solutions. It will collect data on traffic and passenger flows via video surveillance and sensors, automatically manage traffic lights based on traffic intensity, prioritize public and special transport in case of delays, monitor construction equipment, and identify high-risk accident zones with recommendations for prevention.

These measures aim to enhance the efficiency and safety of Tashkent’s urban transport system and provide a comfortable, modern infrastructure for residents and visitors.
