Uzbekistan and Russia discuss issues of cooperation in the field of combating infectious diseases

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova met with a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan headed by the Minister of Health Abdukhakim Khadjibaev.

The parties discussed issues of cooperation in the field of combating infectious diseases, including the new coronavirus infection. Russia and Uzbekistan face common infectious threats, and therefore the formation of common approaches to ensuring the sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population is of particular importance in bilateral relations between countries.

The Uzbek side expressed gratitude to Rospotrebnadzor for the assistance provided during the most difficult period of the COVID-19 pandemic for the country. Then, on a gratuitous basis, Rospotrebnadzor donated test systems to Uzbekistan for conducting 140,000 studies for the new coronavirus, installed a mobile laboratory for express diagnostics and a mobile clinic. The assistance provided in practice during the visit to Uzbekistan in August-September 2020 by representatives of the leading scientific institutes of Rospotrebnadzor was especially noted.

During the meeting, the parties discussed further prospects for cooperation between the two countries.

An agreement was reached on the joint study of variations in the strain of the new coronavirus circulating in Uzbekistan, as well as conducting research to study the population immunity of the population of the Republic of Uzbekistan to COVID-19.

Among the most important areas for the development of cooperation, the parties also noted the capacity building of the Service of Sanitary and Epidemiological Wellbeing and Public Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the provision of advice in unifying sanitary and epidemiological standards and improving laboratory facilities as part of integration processes in the Eurasian space.

Rospotrebnadzor will continue to develop cooperation with the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of ensuring the sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population within the framework of a single epidemiological space for the benefit of the health of the population of our countries.
