Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The possibility of connecting the city of Penjikent of Sughd region with the railway tracks of Samarkand region is being considered by a joint Tajik-Uzbek working group, the press service of the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan reports.
Minister of Transport of Tajikistan Azim Ibrohim noted that this issue was discussed at the meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission of the two countries on trade, economic and scientific and technical cooperation, both in Dushanbe and in Tashkent.
“We are talking about the construction of a railway line, which is planned to be built at the expense of entrepreneurs of the two countries,” the minister said.
According to him, the main question is how far will it be possible to download the intended branch.
Azim Ibrohim stressed that the road being built is planned to be used for both freight and passenger rail transportation.
According to him, this road could, for example, be used by tourists to visit the ancient 5500-year-old city of Sarazm.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the project involves the construction of a railway section from the city of Penjikent to the Bulungur railway station, located in the eponymous district of the Samarkand region of Uzbekistan.
