Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Spokesperson of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov revealed the details of the "gas union" discussed by Tokayev and Putin.
Both Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are rapidly growing domestic demand for gas.
In addition, both countries also trade in foreign markets, like the Russian Federation. And it requires some synchronization.
At the first stage, it is proposed to create a mechanism for coordination in the gas sector.
Then, perhaps, a legal entity is registered: both for cooperation between the three countries, and for the development of infrastructure for foreign markets
The needs of northern Kazakhstan are traditionally provided with gas from Russia.
Spending tens of billions of dollars on the creation of a new pipeline system is unprofitable.
Uzbekistan can participate in this project only as a transit country for Russian natural gas, using its gas transmission capacity.
Russia is developing East Siberian deposits, which, among other things, are export-oriented.
"All this requires the addition of actions, discussion, coordination between the three countries - Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan," Peskov summed up.
