Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - A high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly "Taking action on climate: for the benefit of people, the planet and prosperity" was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York in a hybrid format.

The event was attended by UN Secretary General A. Guterres, Chairman of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly A. Shahid, delegations of more than 70 countries at the level of heads of state / government and ministers, UNEP, ECOSOC, UNICEF, UNFCCC, representatives of civil society and youth organizations.

Speaking at the forum, Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the UN Bakhtiyor Ibragimov informed the participants about the important initiatives of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the field of combating climate change, protecting the environment and biodiversity. 

The attention of those present was also drawn to the ecological disaster caused by the drying up of the Aral Sea. The large-scale measures taken by the Uzbek side to overcome the negative consequences of this natural disaster are indicated.
