Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the twentieth plenary meeting of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the issue of sending a parliamentary request to the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the work carried out in the Republic of Karakalpakstan on the use of solar and wind energy at the facilities of the economic sectors, social sphere and residential premises of the population.
It was noted that at present, amid the acceleration of reforms in the country, the rapid development of industry, and population growth, a sharp increase in demand for energy resources is expected, which will almost double by 2030.
A decrease in hydrocarbon reserves, an increase in oil and gas prices on the world market, and the negative impact on climate change of traditional electricity production through combustion require the widespread use of solar, wind, water and other renewable energy sources.
However, despite the huge potential of the country, the potential of such renewable energy sources as sun and wind is not being fully utilized.
It was noted at the meeting that in developed countries the energy obtained from renewable energy sources accounts for 30-40% of the total energy production, while in our country this indicator (solar and wind energy) is only 1%.
It was emphasized that in accordance with the Law "On the Use of Renewable Energy Sources", the Cabinet of Ministers carries out state management in the field of the use of renewable energy sources.
In addition, in order to meet the demand for energy, the current legislative acts define urgent tasks for the introduction of innovative technologies, scientific and technological developments in the use of renewable energy sources, increasing the energy efficiency of renewable energy sources, expanding their production, attracting business entities to create energy production facilities. state support and encouragement of manufacturers of this type of energy and energy equipment.
The power consumption of electricity in the Republic of Karakalpakstan is 350 MW and is provided by the electricity generated by the Takhiatash CHP, the Tuyamuyun HPP and the Ustyurt gas chemical complex.
In particular, as of 1 October 2021, the number of electricity consumers increased by 14.5% compared to 2017, and in 2030 they are expected to double as compared to today.
To this end, a number of promising projects for the use of solar and wind energy are being implemented in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
In particular, in 2024, the Saudi Arabian company "Acwa Power" plans to launch a 100 MW wind farm in Karauzak district, it is planned to announce a tender for the construction of a 200 MW wind farm in the Kungrad region this year, as well as construction in Karakalpakstan until 2030 the plant with a capacity of 1800 MW.
It was noted that due to the incomplete production of renewable energy devices, the slow pace of attracting business entities to the sphere, existing problems with connecting devices to the unified electric power system, it remains a problem to provide cheap and convenient electricity to objects of economic sectors, social sphere and residential premises of the population, and also the population of areas remote from centralized power supply systems.
At the same time, sufficient measures are not taken to train, retrain and improve qualifications in higher educational institutions and professional colleges of personnel for the production, installation, commissioning, operation and repair of solar and wind energy devices.
At the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev paid special attention to this issue and emphasized that it is planned to take specific measures to switch to renewable energy sources, including doubling the energy efficiency of our economy by 2030 , bringing the share of renewable energy to 25%, and by 2025 it is planned to commission new solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of 2,900 megawatts.
Following the discussion, a corresponding resolution of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis was adopted.
