Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, thanks to the open and pragmatic foreign policy of Uzbekistan, relations are strengthening not only with neighboring countries, but also with far and near abroad and are reaching the level of strategic partnership.
When it comes to cooperation with foreign countries, it is worth noting the role of parliamentary diplomacy, which is currently of great importance. At present, inter-parliamentary groups are being formed for cooperation with foreign parliaments at the level of the lower house of parliament and the Oliy Majlis as a whole, and a regular dialogue is being established between them not only in parliament, but also in various fields.
On 23 September 2020, the inter-parliamentary group of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on cooperation with the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan held an online meeting with members of the Azerbaijani parliament.
The event was attended by deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, members of the Senate, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Republic of Azerbaijan Bahrom Ashrafkhanov, as well as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Uzbekistan Huseyn Guliyev.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan in the social, economic and political spheres are strengthening, and it is necessary to effectively use the capabilities of parliaments to bring cooperation to a new level.
The participants also discussed the results of bilateral interaction, the development of inter-parliamentary dialogue, mutual support within the framework of international organizations, strengthening cooperation in the trade and economic, political and legal, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
Consequently, the parties expressed their readiness to continue mutually beneficial inter-parliamentary cooperation on a wide range of issues.
In addition, during the talks, they discussed the coronavirus pandemic threatening the world, the scale of its spread, as well as the fight against this disease. Along with this, the parties exchanged views on the measures taken in Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan against this global threat.
It was noted that in order to prevent the negative impact of the pandemic on bilateral trade and economic relations, it is necessary to conduct business with cooperation.
As a result of the online dialogue, an agreement was reached on further strengthening relations in the field of lawmaking.
