Parliamentary delegation of Uzbekistan visit London
During three day visit, the delegation met with the members of British parliament, foreign office, members of Uzbek-British Trade and Industry Council, as well as officials of Oxford Islam Research Center.
It also attended several briefings and roundtables, which were attended by representatives of business and public circles of Great Britain.
British experts noted that Uzbekistan plays key role in supporting peace and stability in the region, which is important factor for social-economic development of Central Asia. They highly rated gradual improvement of ties of official Tashkent with neighboring states.
It was underlined that Uzbekistan demonstrates intention to gradual progress, which meets interests of the sides, as well as priorities of Great Britain to Central Asian region.
Contribution of the First President of Uzbekistan Islam Kaimov to development of independent Uzbekistan was underlined. He laid foundation for development of democratic state.
The British side with interest received information on adopted decree on further speeding up development of entrepreneurship in Uzbekistan and draft law on fighting corruption, submitted by Interim President Shavkat Mirziyayev to the parliament.
British companies expressed interest in boosting cooperation with Uzbekistan in such areas as renewable energy, irrigation, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, chemistry, etc.
Lord Peter Bowness, who is also Vice-President of Parliamentary Assembly of OSCE, highly rated readiness of Uzbekistan to receive OSCE ODIHR observers at the presidential elections. He said that this should strengthen bilateral relations, including parliamentary cooperation.
