Parliamentarians of the region discuss approaches to recovery from the pandemic

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 29 June 2021, an online conference "Sustainable approaches to recovery after COVID-19 in the Central Asian region: the role of parliaments" was held.

The event, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), was attended by representatives of the parliaments of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

The conference was opened by the First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Vice-President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Akmal Saidov.

As the Vice President of the Ministry of Railways immediately noted, even the online conference itself is one of the characteristic features of the changes that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought to the life of all mankind. Starting in December 2019, there are restrictions around the world for people, goods and global financial activities. And today, despite the fairly widespread vaccination campaign in some countries, it cannot be said that the problems associated with COVID-19 have been completely resolved in them. No one can say yet when the situation can return to normal as much as possible.

In this regard, despite the fact that COVID-19 continues to pose a threat to the whole world, it is necessary to achieve, in these conditions, the formation of a sustainable standard of living, analyzing the existing problems and drawing conclusions, taking on their basis steps that will not be beneficial. only today, but also for the next generations.

In particular, one of these already made is the conclusion that, as the coronavirus pandemic has shown, today no country in the world can develop in isolation from the world economy. In this regard, this online conference serves as a platform for an in-depth analysis of the ways and possibilities of cooperation, in this case inter-parliamentary, between the countries of Central Asia.

It was also noted at the forum that today Uzbekistan has joined eleven international conventions and seven multilateral international agreements in the field of environmental protection. In particular, as a party to the Paris Agreement, it has committed itself to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 10 percent by 2030 compared to 2010 levels.

According to the relevant paragraph of the State Program, in connection with Uzbekistan’s accession to the Paris Agreement, a state strategy for the transition to a "green economy" was developed. In this direction, a number of projects are being implemented in our country to introduce environmentally friendly, resource-saving technologies.

In particular, in recent years, several projects have been implemented in the Aral Sea region. As a result, saxaul and other desert-tolerant plants were planted in the arid regions of the former Aral Sea. The infrastructure of the city of Muynak has also been radically improved. The Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan makes its contribution to the gradual development of the country’s "green economy".

During the conference, it was noted that the inter-parliamentary dialogue will help bring the countries of the region to an even more successful path of development, improve the economic situation of people, and contribute to the solution of pressing issues using the exchange of experience and opinions.

As a result of the negotiations, an agreement was reached on further expanding and strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation, which is an important factor in the development of multilateral relations, the organization of joint events in this area, and the exchange of experience in lawmaking.
