Overchuk: Uzbekistan Interested in Cooperation with the EAEU in Customs Transit
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan is showing active interest in developing cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in the areas of transport and customs transit, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk told reporters.
He emphasized that Uzbekistan is currently an observer in the EAEU and is closely monitoring processes within the union, including the implementation of agreements in transport infrastructure and customs transit. “There is significant interest from Uzbekistan in this area,” Overchuk noted.
He also recalled that Uzbekistan recently joined the Eurasian Development Bank, which further strengthens its integrational cooperation with the regional economy. The Russian Deputy Prime Minister stressed that the decision to join the EAEU remains entirely with Uzbekistan. “No one is pushing them or asking them to join. It is their decision. In today’s economic conditions, countries seeking growth and expanded trade capacities sooner or later join integration unions that provide leverage for development,” he explained.
According to Overchuk, the Russian Federation, as the largest economy in Northern Eurasia, serves as a hub for producers, including those from Uzbekistan, offering them more convenient access to the market and opportunities to expand their export potential.
