Over 32% of electricity in Uzbekistan to be generated by hydroelectric power stations in next five years

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Over the next five years, 32% of electricity in Uzbekistan will be generated by new hydroelectric power stations. This was stated by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev during his speech at an extraordinary session of the Kengash of People’s deputies of Tashkent region.

The head of Uzbekistan said that the energy produced at the Navoi Thermal Power Plant (TPP) is expensive.

"It’s easy to build a station in Navoi, to bring it from Japan, but the electricity produced there should be required by society, people. This is expensive electricity,” the head of state said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev underlined that Uzbekistan plans to build the first nuclear power plant (NPP) in cooperation with Russia.

“For the first time in history, an agreement has been signed to build a nuclear power plant, we are thinking about tomorrow. We must ask ourselves what will happen to the future generation,” Mirziyoyev said.
