Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A five-day course titled “Modern Media: Law, Security, and Digital Tools” has commenced at the International Nordic University in Tashkent, aimed at developing professional skills among young journalists and students.

The training runs from 2 to 5 December and is organized by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, the Public Fund for the Support and Development of National Mass Media, the International Nordic University, and the Center for the Development of Contemporary Journalism.

The course program covers a wide range of topics relevant to the modern media landscape. Participants study the fundamentals of media law, procedures for obtaining information from government bodies, as well as issues of ethics and information security.

Discussions are conducted through real-life case studies, practical exercises, and interactive debates.

A dedicated module focuses on fact-checking and skills for identifying disinformation—a competence that has become essential in the era of rapid digital transformation.

Participants also learn about artificial intelligence tools and their applications in journalism, with particular emphasis on accuracy, reliability, and ethical standards.

The practical component of the course includes mobile video production, creating content for social media, and audience metric analysis. Sessions are led by experienced practitioners who share insights from their work in contemporary newsrooms and international media outlets.

The course is held as part of the global campaign “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence”, which this year focuses on digital violence, highlighting the importance of media literacy, online safety, and responsible content creation.

Organizers emphasize that the initiative aims to prepare a new generation of professionals capable of producing high-quality, objective, and socially meaningful journalism in a rapidly evolving media environment.
