OSCE Chairperson Highlights Importance of Regional Cooperation in Addressing Shared Challenges
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, has concluded her official visit to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, reaffirming the Organization’s steadfast commitment to supporting regional cooperation and its long-standing partnership with Central Asian states.
In Astana, Minister Valtonen held meetings with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu, and Senate Chairperson Maulen Ashimbayev. During the discussions, she praised Kazakhstan’s democratic reforms, improvements in governance, and efforts in human rights protection. She also commended Kazakhstan's active role in addressing regional challenges and its leadership in strengthening regional connectivity.
In Tashkent, Minister Valtonen met with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov, and First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Sadik Safayev. She also visited the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, where she delivered a speech and engaged with students.
Key topics of discussion included Uzbekistan’s ongoing reform agenda and opportunities for deeper cooperation with the OSCE. Valtonen welcomed the effective collaboration between Uzbekistan and the OSCE Project Co-ordinator and reiterated the Organization’s support for national development priorities.

During her visit, she also met with civil society representatives and OSCE staff. At the Programme Office in Astana and the Project Co-ordinator’s office in Uzbekistan, she expressed gratitude for their dedication and tireless efforts in service of the local population.
